How to borrow
Books from our collection can be ordered in advance through the Alma database or browsed on site and loaned from the shelves at the library. Most books are given out as home loans for a four-week period. Exceptions to this are journals, reference works, valuable and large-size works, material in the Westermarck collection and other special collections. The library with its open shelves is located on the bottom floor of Humanisticum, while the loan desk and the reference literature are found in the research hall at the entrance floor. Everyone who is registered as a client at Åbo Akademi University Library can borrow books in our library. New library cards can also be acquired from the ÅAU library. If you are a student at another university in Finland, your library card from that library can be activated also at the Donner Library. You can renew your loans by logging in to the Alma service or by contacting us via e-mail. Our books can also be returned to other library units within ÅAU. Our books are available by interlibrary loan to other libraries both in Finland and abroad. Researchers and teachers at ÅAU can order books from the Donner library to be sent to their offices at the university. Books can also be ordered for pick-up at the ÅAU main library. This concerns books that are given out as home loans. When ordering books via Alma, you should note in the comment field: Send to: Internal address or Pick-up at the Main Library. The books are registered to your account in Alma before they are sent via internal mail to the address noted in the comment field.
